A Yucatecan lifeguard became a hero on Sunday August 11th, after saving the life of a 75-year-old man who was about to drown in the beach of Yucalpetén, Progreso municipality, according to local authorities.

The events occurred around 10:30 in the morning, when the drowning man was rescued by lifeguard Juan Antonio Puc, who reacted quickly to help the 75 year-old, as he had already swallowed sea water.

Carlos Herrera was at the seaside in front of the Isstey beach complex, when he slipped and fell into the water where he began to drown because he was not being able to stand up again, and he doesn’t know how to swim.

Once he was rescued by Juan Antonio Puc, the man was laid down on the beach, where he convulsed and vomited some of the sea water he swallowed, but in the end, and thanks to the quick reaction of the lifeguard, he was reported in good state of health.

Paramedics from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP), arrived on site, stabilized the victim and transferred him to the IMSS Progreso clinic, accompanied by his wife, Guadalupe Navarrete, 73 years old.
