Progreso registers record figures during this summer holiday season

The Malecón of Progreso had a good influx of people on the afternoon of Thursday August 22, thanks to the arrival of the “Dream” cruise ship, that brought activity to the beaches despite the cloudy skies that prevailed throughout the day.

During the day, the “Dream” passengers enjoyed their stay and despite the cloudy sky and light showers, tourists enjoyed the beach, along with the products and services offered there.

For the first time in this summer holiday season that is coming to an end, the amount of foreign tourists exceeded that of domestic visitors in the Malecón, a situation that, according to the owners of restaurants and establishments, could have responded to weather conditions, because cloudy skies usually discourage locals.

The merchants, restaurant owners and hoteliers of the main tourist area of Progreso, stated that this has been one of the holiday periods of greatest impact on the economy of the community, due to the high influx of visitors who arrived at the port during these past weeks.

The amount of time tourists remained in Progreso this summer, also improved significantly, thanks to the increase of activity in tems of Night Life and entertainment, tourists extended their stay for at least one night, which led to an increase in hotel occupancy, as well as in sales in restaurants, bars, shops and convenience stores.

Most businesses are already beginning to prepare their decorations for September, the month of Mexican Independence, during which they will offer promotions, activities and trditional gastronomy.
