New U.S. consulate in Mérida to open in 2023

“The US diplomatic relationship with Mexico is one of the most important in the world and due to the development of the Mexican Southeast, it is of special interest”, said the consul general of that country in Mérida, Courtney Beale, who announced that in 2023 a new consular office will be opening in “the White City”.

Work on the new headquarters of the US consulate would begin in the first half of 2020.

In addition to the remodeling and relocation of the diplomatic headquarters in Yucatan, new consulates will be built in Matamoros, Monterrey, Hermosillo, Nogales and the new embassy in Mexico City , with an investment of 1.5 million dollars.

“There is an important relationship with Mexico which is growing every day,” the consul said.

During the conference “Socio-economic ties between the United States and the Yucatan Peninsula,” Ms. Beale reiterated the relevance of bilateral integration and the benefits obtained for both nations.

The conference was held as part of the shared agenda of the civil association Masters Yucatán and the Lebanese Club of Mérida A.C., institutions that recently signed a collaboration agreement.

The presentation, in which the US consular representative for Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo addressed the issue of the growing bilateral relationship in economic matters, had a large audience made up of representatives of the business sector, members of the Lebanese Club of Merida and members from the Yucatan Masters group.
