On Sunday August 11th, a resident of the municipality of Kanasín, Yucatán, who dove into a cenote from a height of five meters (17 feet), but for his bad luck, instead of jumping into the water, crashed against the rocks, ended up dying in a Merida hospital because of the multiple injuries he suffered.
Arnulfo Dorantes Sánchez, 55, went to visit the Subinteh cenote, located on the Sahcabá-Sanahcat road, municipality of Homún, with his family and friends.
At approximately 4:30 in the afternoon, Arnulfo from Kanasín, who was under the influence of alcohol, decided to jump into the cenote.
He climbed onto the rail and threw himself from a height of five meters; but, instead of falling into the water, the man landed on the rocks at the edge of the cenote.
His family and friends went to his aid, and got him into a private vehicle to transfer him to a hospital. They called 911 emergency service and an ambulance intercepted the private vehicle on the Acanceh-Dzitiná road to transfer Arnulfo to a Merida hospital.

However, due to the seriousness of his injuries, a more equipped ambulance was requested that approached him near the Teya bridge, on the Mérida-Cancún highway, and he was taken to the IMSS T-1 hospital.
Arnulfo presented head injury, fractured jaw and right hand. And unfortunately, according to the police report, he died later as a result of these injuries.
