Merida, Yucatan June 30th.- In Merida, some 400 people walked along Paseo de Montejo to join the national movement that demands the resignation of the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
This movement, which some media have called #MarchaFifi, was replicated in different cities and towns across all 32 states of the country, in protest against the policy of López Obrador
The demonstrators gathered at the Monumento a la Patria on Sunday morning to protest against the poor performance of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s presidency.
In the demonstration, the opponents demand a political impeachment to the President and point out that they have sent “thousands” of emails to the congress and senate stating their position.
Some of the points that the protesters criticize are:
- Cancellation of the NAIM Airport in Texcoco.
Construction of the Santa Lucia Airport
Construction of the Maya Train without environmental impact studies.
Give away money to 2.6 million Mexicans, between 18 and 29 years old, who currently do not study nor work.
Construction of two thermoelectric plants in Morelos.
Modification to the law of minimum wage.
Cancellation of the educational reform.
Release from prison and give back properties to Elba Esther Gordillo “La Maestra”.
Budget reduction for the Public Children’s Daycare Program.
Construction of a refinery in Dos Bocas, Tabasco.
Not attending the G-20 Summit in Japan.
