Members of more than 10 associations that support the project of a park in Mérida’s La Plancha assure that they will not allow the consruction of a Maya Train station in that space.
Members of more than 10 associations that make up the project for the construction of the Gran Parque La Plancha completely reject the use of the land as a station and offices of the Maya Train, as the Federal Government intends to do, and assured that, if necessary, they will carry out marchs and demonstrations in the city of Mérida to protest against this imposition.
Felix Rubio Villanueva, president of the association known as Gran Parque La Plancha A.C., stressed that it would be a big mistake to install the Maya Train terminal in La Plancha. He stressed that the original project foresaw the station to be built outside the city.
He also made it clear that they have the support of many people, local residents, private initiative groups, civil associations and activists that support the proposal to build the “Museum of Light” and the “mini” Central Park at the premises of “La Plancha”.

“The different associations and residents that make up the “Gran Parque La Plancha” group, do not agree with the approach of Aaron Rosado. They have stated that if the train enters Mérida it would be passing through very busy areas of the city, from Umán to Itzaes Avenue, Itzimná, colonia Jesús Carranza, etc. The original plan contemplates to plant a large number of trees and create a Park, not a train station that will cause traffic instead, ” Rubio Villanueva said.
“If we have to confront the Federal Government, we will do it. We are willing to to do whatever it takes, to make the park a reality, “he stated.
The director of Railways of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Gustavo Baca Villanueva, previously said that the railway would leave out of the south of Mérida, pass through Poxilá, and head to Valladolid, from where the Federal Government will decide if it continues to Tulum or Playa del Carmen.
“Whether or not the land is legalized, we will not allow our Gran Parque La Plancha project to be affected by the Maya Train,” concluded Felix Rubio Villanueva, president of Gran Parque La Plancha A.C.
