Remodeling works will start at the facilities of the Yucatan Siglo XXI Convention Center on Wednesday June 26. Therefore, the whole complex will be closed to the public, including the movie theaters, since the infrastructure will go through an “extreme makeover” program of adjustments and transformations, in order to host the 2020 Tianguis Turístico in April next year.
This announcement was made by the state secretary of Public Works, Virgilio Crespo Méndez.
The state official said that the closure of movie theaters and convention halls will take place next week, and this situation will be complicated taking in consideration that the facility hosts more than 200 fairs, exhibitions and conventions each year, and will be closed for several months.
The remodeling works will be carried out from July to December and the main areas are the parking lot, and the rest of the 23 thousand square meters of structure in general.
“For safety reasons the whole property will be closed to the public, since specialized machinery will carrying out the remodeling and adaptation works needed for this property, to be in optimum conditions to host the Tianguis Turistico, one of the most important tourism events in Mexico, ” said the official.
“200 million pesos (10 million USD) have been destined for the corresponding remodeling and adaptation works, so the facility can be ready to host the Tianguis Turistico”, Crespo Méndez concluded.
