“Prepa Uno’s school teacher accused of having sexually harassed at least four students of that campus, will no longer work for this institution, and he will not be allowed to approach the affected teenagers during the ongoing criminal investigation”, declared Renán Solís Sánchez, UADY’s general counselor.
As reported by The Yucatan Times on June 12th, Paola, a high school student, posted on social networks that Professor C.E.C.R touched her leg when she went to talk to him about her grades. The teenager’s mother filed a complaint before the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), and the student community called a protest at the UADY’s central building to demand justice.
According to the representative of the campaign “UADY without harassment”, Rosa Elena Cruz Pech, after hearing the case of Paola, three other students reported having been harassed by the same teacher.
In an interview, Solís Sánchez indicated that since the University had knowledge of Paola’s case, it initiated the corresponding investigations, according to the collective work contract of the teaching staff. Currently, an administrative investigation is being carried out with the participation of Prepa Uno’s director, Ligia Herrera Correa, and other members of UADY.
Although it was not specified how many complaints were filed against the high school teacher, it is known that there were several and the mothers of the minors affected not only notified the University of the incidents: they also went to the Prosecutor’s Office and to the State Human Rights Commission (Comisión de Derechos Humanos del Estado de Yucatán: Codhey).
The Codhey recommended precautionary measures to be established for the accused, which UADY accepted.
“We said yes and we established the corresponding precautionary measures: the teacher will have restrictions, he is not teaching at campus anymore and he is not allowed to approach the alleged victims until the investigation is over,” Solís Sánchez concluded.
