Progreso seeks state and federal economic support for beach recovery actions

Beach recovery actions in Progreso are intended to be the foundation for federal and state authorities to start contributing in these issue that is of high relevance to the port.

Before the strong advance of the erosion of beaches in the municipality, the City Council of Progreso started recovery strategies for coastal areas, beginning with beach cleanup campaigns, focused on sanitation plans for these sites, reforestation and prohibition of entry of motorized vehicles to the sand.

The Mayor of Progreso, Julián Zacarías Curi, indicated that these actions seek to give the port and its people dignified spaces, that’s why municipal authorities are asking for support local schools, government institutions, civil organizations and, above all, the general population of Progreso, to continue cleaning up more areas across the municipality.

Zacarías Curi pointed out that more people want to see a clean and sustainable Progreso.

According to the director of Public Services and Ecology of Progreso, Karim Dib López, the first cleaning tasks carried out at Calle 21 (x 40) street access, is the example of how other entrances will be intervened. At present, similar works are being carried out in two areas near the traditional pier.

Along with these tasks, the head of Public Services and Ecology indicated that, in conjunction with Zofemat, a strategic plan is being prepared to seek the recovery of beaches and mangroves, which will be presented to state and federal environmental authorities, with the intention of getting them involved by highlighting these important first actions.
