“So far in 2019 it has been possible to spay and neuter 724 animals through the four programs run by the Campeche Municipal government. This campaign is being successfully carried out in different neighborhoods across the state capital”, said Alejandra González Marín, head of the Directorate of Protection, Environment and Sustainable Development of the City of Campeche.
The official said that the sterilization program is carried out by the City Council in conjunction with Planned Pethood Mexico, with the support of four doctors, as well as the willingness of the municipality which facilitated the place where the sterilizations are taking place.
She pointed out that for every 100 sterilized animals, 600 puppies are prevented from being born, which represents an important figure. Until Monday May 13th, 584 sterilizations had been completed and another 140 were scheduled for the 14th. And the campaign will keep going during the whole week in Campeche’s Colonia Siglo XXI; and for for the month June the goal is to achieve 200 more sterilized dogs and cats. By the year 2020 it is expected to 2 thousand spay and neutered animals.
González Marín recalled that the program is aimed at the low income population and stray animals in Campeche, but somehow this campaign has been adopted by local families with very good results.
