BACKYARD BIRDING IN MERIDA, YUCATAN AND BEYOND – PRIVATE DANCER: TRICOLORED HERON

Watch what happens as a single Tricolored Heron in breeding plumage dances for an hour before me:

PRIVATE DANCER

Feathers unfurl

Heron twirls

Wings shade

Shadows made

Circular dance

Upright prance

Body lunges

Spear plunges

Neck curls

Water swirls

Circle again

Same refrain

Watery ballet

Captures prey

Fish catch

Perfect match

Hour’s dalliance

Nature’s balance

What fun that must have been to watch! Great captures. And the poem is beautiful too!

It was mesmerizing to watch and actually worked as the heron caught many fish. I didn't count, but the number seemed significant for its efforts.
