Yucatán police and state government inaugurate “Semana Santa” operation

During Semana Santa, Merida and the whole state will be welcoming thousands of tourists from foreign countries and other parts of Mexico, hotels will sure report high occupancy and local officials are promoting a wide variety of activities for both visitors and local residents.

And in this sense, the “starting pistol” ceremony of the Semana Santa Yucatán holiday season Monitoring Operation took place on Thursday April 11th.

State secretary of government María Fritz Sierra was accompanied by police and military authorities, and she wished everybody “Felices Vacaciones” (Happy Vacation).

The event was held at the entrance of the new shopping center located on the Mérida – Progreso highway.

Fritz Sierra declared that “state, municipal and federal police will support the needs of vacationers all over the Yucatán”.

Also,officials and agents of the Gendarmerie, General Prosecutor Office of the State and the Republic, Red Cross, Civil Protection and “Green Angels” were present during this symbolic ceremony.
