7 weapons that the Mexican Government approved ownership for self-defense

After the Federal Government approved the ownership of weapons at home for self defense, The Yucatan Times tells you which brands and calibers have been authorized for that purpose.

The catalog of the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) showcases what type of weapons can be legally bought from them, without violating the law. And 7 types of gun are highlighted:

1.  Glock 9 x 19 

Description: 

The reduced dimensions regarding the size of the standard pistol , make the Glock 19 a multiple utility weapon. According to the sitoi topgun.es this pistol is used by many security agencies around the world, because it is light and easy to carry, and can be used as a second weapon. In fact, many elite pilots of the United States Air Force rely on Glock 19 for their defense in critical situations.


2. Jericho 941F

Description: 

The Jericho 941F is also known as the “baby eagle” . This is an Israeli guns designed for use in adverse conditions, especially in the desert. Jericho pistols are widely exported from Israel, and are also used by the public security staff in that nation.


3. Semi-automatic P2226 Tacops

Description:

The P226 was developed in the 1980s as a replacement for the M1911-A1 of the United States Army . Although the P226 was not finally chosen to be the standard service pistol of the United States, it did not prevent the Navy personnel from using it as the weapon of their choice to carry out special operations missions . It is used by military and law enforcement agents in 30 countries around the world , so it has developed a reputation as an almost perfect service pistol.


4. SIG SAUER P320

Description: 

The  Sig Sauer P320  reached the “civilian” market in 2014, and its advantage is that it has several handles to adapt better to hands of different sizes, but also has a simple system to change the bullet caliber that can be used in the gun.


5. Pietro Bereta 92 FS

Description:

These are semi-automatic pistols designed and manufactured by Italian gun manufacturer Beretta Gardone val Trompia, from Brescia,  Italy . It was designed in  1972  and the production of many variations of different calibers continues today. It is famous for having replaced the  11.43 mm M1911 pistol  as the standard weapon  of the United States Armed Forces  in  1985 , in the form of the M9 pistol.


6. Herstal FNP9

Description: 

The weapons of the FNP series are hammer weapons that use a Browning camera system with an external extractor. The trigger module is housed within the polymer frame as a single unit connected to the hammer. The magazine release button is held in place by a retention pin that can be removed to allow the magazine release button to reverse. The trigger pull for the FNP-9 is usually 8 pounds in double action and 3 to 4 pounds in single action. While the lower frame is made of high strength polymer, the slide is made of stainless steel.


7. SIG SAUER P250 compact

Description: 

It is a Swiss weapon. In the list of any professional shooter, SIG Sauer always occupies a high place. The police, the military, the civilian shooters trust the SIG according to the experts.


“The Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives indicates in Article 9 that weapons of the following characteristics may be possessed or carried, in the terms and with the limitations established by this Law: semi – automatic pistols of a caliber not exceeding. 380 (9mm.), Except guns calibres .38 Super and .38 Command.

” Revolvers can also be carried in calibers not exceeding .38 Special , except for the .357 Magnum caliber. On the other hand, the ejidatarios, comuneros and day laborers of the countryside, outside the urban areas , may possess and carry with the sole demonstration, a weapon of the aforementioned, a .22 caliber rifle or a shotgun of any caliber, except for the barrel length less than 635 mm. (25), and those of caliber superior to 12 (.729 or 18. 5 mm.) “.

The Government of Mexico endorsed changes in the Constitution that enable Mexican citizens to have firearms at their homes, for their self-defense.


On March 26 of this year, the decree was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF ) to amend, add and repeal various provisions of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States in terms of National Guard.

“THE FEDERAL LAW WILL DETERMINE THE CASES, CONDITIONS, REQUIREMENTS AND PLACES WHERE THE INHABITANTS CAN BE AUTHORIZED TO CARRY WEAPONS,” READS ARTICLE 10.

Weapons prohibited by Federal Law and those reserved for the exclusive use of the permanent Armed Forces and Police Corps, cannot be kept in homes by civilians.

-Sale of weapons-

The sale of legal weapons is carried out through the Armament and Munitions Commercialization Directorate of  SEDENA .

It establishes the requirements for sale to civilians, among which are:

* Photocopy of the Manual of the SMN
* Work letter, specifying: specifying position, seniority and perceptions.
* Letter of no criminal record in original.
* Copy of the proof of address
* Photocopy of identification with photograph
* Photocopy of the birth certificate.
* Photocopy of the Single Registry of Population Registry (CURP).


-Costs- 

Based on the requirements of the Sedena, to obtain a private individual license to carry a firearm, the amount of $2,450 pesos must be paid , while the renewal has the same cost.

For an extraordinary permit for the purchase of firearms, cartridges and accessories, an extra $126 pesos must be paid .
