Some presentations have up to 62 percent soy in their product.
PROFECO, MEXICO. – If you are one of those people who like to consume tuna, you have to know that what you could actually be purchasing could be more soy than tuna. So, read the following note to see if this can have an impact in your diet.
PROFECO conducted a quality study to various brands of canned tuna in the market, finding that 18 of the 57 presentations analyzed contained soy, without telling the consumer the amount of it.
According to Excelsior.com, in one of the analyzed presentations – Yellowfin tuna with soy protein (in water and oil), Aurrera brand, with net content 140 g and drained mass 100 g . However, up to 62% of soy was found in drained mass, so that it can be established (in this case) that the consumer is not acquiring tuna, but soy with tuna.
In the study, carried out from October 5 to December 14 2018, a total 3,021 tests were carried out to 57 presentations of different brands of canned and packaged tuna, of which 17 are compact or solid presentation, 15 in pieces, 14 in leaflets, 10 shredded.
Among the results obtained, it is noteworthy that in 18 presentations it was found that it contain soy, in a percentage that ranges from 1% to 62% without revealing the ratios the consumer.
