“An atypical cane burning in the area of Ingenio La Joya, in the municipality of Champoton, Campeche, was the cause for the fire that interrupted the supply of electricity in different municipalities across Yucatan and Quintana Roo”, the CFE reported.

This was reported by the CFE, through a statement, which said that the agency was not notified in time. And due to the dense column of smoke the operation of two transmission lines was affected

The statement said that the loss left the Escarcega Transmission Lines-A3Q20-Ticul and Escarcega-A3Q30-Ticul, 400 kV double link without operation.

This situation affected the electric power service in the municipalities of Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Chetumal and Mérida.

This type of burn is carried out regularly at dawn and in a scheduled manner; but on this occasion, it was carried out in the middle of the night and without the CFE being notified to take the corresponding measures.

According to the statement, 351,728 users were affected, however, they all recovered the service in less than 30 minutes, derived from the quick response by the CFE staff, who attended the emergency.

To avoid subsequent incidents, the CFE will visit Ingenio La Joya, to ratify the burn agreement during the early hours of the morning and its prior notification.
