Armed robbery at Cancun’s hotel zone restaurant

Four armed men make off with safe from Harry’s Restaurant, right in the middle of the Cancun Hotel Zone.

Cancun, Q.R. — According to Riviera Maya News, four armed men who arrived behind the restaurant by boat in the Cancun Hotel Zone have allegedly left with the safe.

The robbery was reported on Monday March 11th by staff at Harry’s Restaurant when the security guard was found tied up inside a storage room, he was left there by men who allegedly robbed the restaurant.

According to the security guard, four men arrived armed with guns at the restaurant by boat from Laguna Nichupté. They entered the premises, threatened him at gun point, tied him up and proceeded to make off with the safe and bottles of liquor.

The 32-year-old guard was finally able to contact the Tourist Police of the Cancun Hotel Zone at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, when the restaurant employees began arriving for their shift.

On site surveillance cameras were apparently tampered with anticipation, prior to the robbery.

The State Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General del Estado) has begun an investigation into the robbery. The security guard was interrogated, no arrests have been made related to this incident so far.
