“So far this year, 26 suicides have been registered in the state of Yucatan, which is why we are creating awareness among the population, through workshops and courses to counteract the trend and stop this situation”, expressed María Cristina Castillo Espinosa, president of the DIF Yucatán.
As part of the strategy to prevent depression and suicide, the System for Integral Family Development (DIF) Yucatán, through the Department of Child and Family Care (DAIF), is currently training teachers and parents, as well as staff of the municipal DIF of Yucatan, to go fight this evil that is strongly affecting the state.

The representative of the DIF María Cristina Castillo Espinosa, mentioned that providing timely information, and the mentoring of specialists, are of utmost importance in the promotion of good mental health, something fundamental for adequate emotional development.
“Bringing better health services and care schemes closer to the Yucatecans, mainly in the most vulnerable areas of the state, is one of the administration’s priorities, which is why this program will cover 52 municipalities, and seeks to raise awareness about the numerous and complex circumstances that interfere in the mood and performance of people everyday, at the same time detect factors that affect these conditions such as bullying, violence, sexual abuse, alcoholism, drug addiction and economic problems,”María Cristina Castillo Espinosa concluded.
