Conkal is 17 kilometers (10 miles) north of Mérida’s downtown (INEGI)

According to Gina Villagómez, researcher at the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán UADY, and member of the council of support for women of the city of Mérida, Yucatán occupies the seventh place in violence against women and minors nationwide.

The Psycho-pedagogical and Re-education Center for Men in Mérida that was created in 2007 and that was recently relocated to Colonia Juan Pablo II, provided attention to over 1,000 men during 2018, in order to eradicate their violent behavior towards women.

However, gender violence in Merida is still a very serious problem that needs to be solved by the local authorities.
