46 cases of conjunctivitis registered everyday in Yucatan

MERIDA, YUCATAN (SSY) .- Conjunctivitis, the disease that reached its highest peak in Yucatan in 2017, has resurged strongly in this start of 2019: in only 26 days the National System of Epidemiological Surveillance (SINAVE) of the federal Ministry of Health received reports of 1,200 cases diagnosed in the entity, at a rate of 46 each day.

In its most recent weekly epidemiological bulletin, SINAVE cites statistics of conjunctivitis up to week four of the year, that is, until January 26.

More than in 2018

During this period, 1,200 diagnoses were recorded in public health institutions in Yucatán, compared to 1,069 in the same period of last year. There are not, until the cut of the report, information of acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis.

In 2017, conjunctivitis reached epidemic dimensions in Yucatan, when it closed the year with 97,387 patients officially. In 2018, just under 19,000 cases were reported.

Medical specialists warn of the need to reinforce hygiene measures to avoid a major outbreak this year.
