Because of its attractions, as well as its innovative investment and development strategies, Yucatan became a worldwide tourist reference at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) Madrid 2019, an important showcase that took place in the Spanish capital this week.
Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal participated in this international exhibition, in which he led the Yucatecan delegation that went to promote the advantages of the state as a tourist destination in the Mexican pavilion, whose facade was adorned by an image of Chichén Itzá.
In the opening ceremony of the space corresponding to Mexico were also present the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), Miguel Torruco Marqués and the governors of Michoacán, Campeche, Oaxaca and Guerrero, Silvano Aureoles Conejo, Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa and Hector Astudillo Flores, respectively.
In the Mexican Pavilion, the Yucatecan gastronomy was the star of the show because it acted as a sample of the enormous diversity of options that international tourism can enjoy, the gastronomic exhibition was led by renowned chefs Pedro Evia and David Cetina, who with typical dishes such as cochinita pibil, escabeche , black stuffing and chestnut filling, just to name a few, captivated the palate of more than 2,000 attendees, who visited the exhibition every day.
Vila Dosal made known to the ambassador of Mexico in that nation, Roberta Lajous Vargas, and the director of the House of Mexico in Spain, Ximena Caraza, that Yucatan is becoming an increasingly attractive point for tourists, in addition to increasing its air connectivity through strategic alliances that allow the arrival of a greater number of tourists.
On the opening day, Vila Dosal, accompanied by the State Secretary of Tourism Promotion (Sefotur), Michelle Fridman, received the “Excelencias Turísticas” award that the publishing consortium Grupo Excelencias gave to the Yucatecan delegation for its 360º Touristic Yucatan strategy, which understands tourism as a tool that generates international investment, a way for a real collaborative economy and a trigger for improving the quality of life of its residents, through sustainable and responsible development.
YucaTan Turístico 360 ° was chosen from 2,500 proposals and distinguished along with 35 other selected ones, among which are the Real Madrid and Osborne foundations, Hard Rock Hotels RCD Hotels, Celebrity Cruises (Royal Caribbean), Iberostar Group, BBVA and World’S 50 Best Restaurants, among others, turning the state into a real spearhead in terms of tourism.
In addition, the state delegation held more than 150 meetings with buyers, business partners, operators and tourism agencies, as well as airlines, shipping companies and other actors in the tourism industry to publicize the opportunities that the state has as a tourist destination.
The consolidation of remodeling and rehabilitation projects of existing establishments to take advantage of the benefits and jointly generate new jobs and more income for Yucatecans and their families, in order to improve their quality of life.
Among other important activities was the presentation of the Yucatán Peninsula project, which includes a regional promotional strategy in conjunction with Quintana Roo and Campeche, giving rise to a new way of working together as a cluster to boos the tourism activity and wealth of Mexico capitalizing on the European market , while optimizing financial, media and strategic resources.
