On Thursday Jan. 3rd, state police detained two subjects who robbed three Mérida convenience stores in one single night, threatening employees with a knife.
Jaime C. C., 26 years old, from Quintana Roo, and Gustavo M.N. 33-year-old, from Mexico City, are accused of stealing cash and merchandise at two “Oxxo” stores located in the Paraíso Maya and Emiliano Zapata Norte neighborhoods, as well as one “7-Eleven” located on Periférico Oriente.
As the description of the thieves and their vehicle was provided by witnesses and employees, the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) alerted all units and started a search operation using the video surveillance system of the Police Intelligence and Monitoring Unit ( Umipol). The suspects were arrested hours later at Colonia Emiliano Zapata Oriente.
The two individuals were fully identified by their victims and transferred to a detention facility, and were placed under custody of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE). The SSP recognized that thanks to the citizen collaboration in this case, the follow-up and clarification of the facts was achieved with greater promptness and certainty.
In this case, the video cameras at the stores, as well as the 9-1-1 report of a citizen who saw the suspects boarding the car and provided characteristics and license plates number facilitated their prompt detention.
