The State government does not consider at the moment to authorize a raise in the public transport rates in Mérida and in the foreign routes that cover the different municipalities, this decision is taken in order to support to the Yucatecan families due to the difficult economic situation our country is going through.
The head of the Metropolitan Coordination of the State (Coordinación Metropolitana del Estado: Comey), Aref Karam Espósitos, said that Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal is aware of the costs faced by companies in the public transportation sector in relation with the prices of spare parts and fuel.
But, he added, so far it has not been determined to make any adjustment or increase on the fees, that could impact the Yucatecans’ economy.
He said that urban transport maintains its current fees and discounts through the corresponding credential for children, students, senior citizens and people with disabilities.
The head of Comey said that there is direct contact with the concessionaires to continue working on the diagnosis and proposal of solutions to the great challenges of urban transport in Mérida and the rest of state territory.
Therefore, on the governor instructions and in fulfillment of one of his campaign commitments to the citizenship, they are working on the formation of the Institute of Mobility and Urban Territorial Development (Instituto de Movilidad y Desarrollo Urbano Territorial).
This will define public policies that affect efficient citizen mobility, as well as the proper coexistence of the different land uses, in order to facilitate all sectors of society a proper access to places of services, work, consumption and entertainment.
