Man found dead at Mérida’s Centro hotel

MERIDA, YUCATAN. JAN 2, 2019.- A man was found dead in a hotel located in the downtown area.

According to the statement made by hotel employees, the man had been staying at the place for several months. And on Wednesday January 2nd, after two days of not having seen the guest anywhere, the dead body was found inside the room by one of the hotel workers in advanced state of decomposition.

Casa Bown Hotel is located at the intersection of 66th and 65th streets, on the first square of Mérida’s Centro, just three blocks away from the Plaza Grande.

The man was identified as José Vélez, about 60 years old, although it is still unknown if he is from Yucatan, from another part of Mexico or from another country. He had been living in a room on the second floor of Casa Bowen for a couple of months.

The last time he was seen alive was Monday, December 31, when he went to his room and did not leave again.

Municipal police officers are conducting the corresponding investigation to determine the cause of death.
