First homicide and first suicide of the year in Merida, Yucatán

The year begins with one suicide and one homicide in Yucatan.

Juan Villacis was found hanging from his neck, inside the car workshop “El Grande”, on 6th Street, between 15 and 17, Colonia Diaz Ordaz, where he worked.

The man used a rope that he tied around one the wooden beams of the workshop ceiling, where he had spent the previous night. Villacis was found by his mother, who, worried about him, went to look for him at his work place.

The woman stood for a long time at the workshop’s entrance calling her son’s name, and she did not get any answer. However, her mother’s intuition told her something was not right and she called a friend of the family, who went to place, jumped the entrance gate and found the victim hanging inside. They called 911 to ask for help. Sadly, the authorities came only to take away the corpse.

The victim’s mother told the agents of Semefo and the SSP that this was not the first time her son tried to kill himself.

Meanwhile, the State Investigation Police (PEI) and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) are working on the first homicide of 2019, that took place on Calle 167 and 88 of Colonia Emiliano Zapata Sur III, around 3 am on Tuesday January 1st.

Apparently the crime was committed to old quarrels between those involved, who happened to meet at that place, and under the influence of alcohol, started an argument that ended with the murder of V. R. V. F.

According to the SSP report, agents of the South Sector and the GOERA Special Group of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) detained three individuals for their alleged participation in the homicide of V. R. V. F., 37 years of age.

Fernando Ismael C. U., 21, said he was walking with the victim on Calle 86, when they were intercepted by subjects with whom they maintain rivalry, and one of them stabbed V. R.

According to the witness version, the alleged murderer is R. A. S. H., aged 17, and was accompanied by D. R. C. U. of the same age. The three were arrested and turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office.
