Health problems with Sushi restaurants seem to continue in Mérida.
And after the closure of the “Bla, Bla & Sushi” restaurant, two weeks ago at Victory Platz (near the City Center shopping mall), another case comes up at the “To Sushi” restaurant located at the exclusive Plaza La Isla.
As in the case of “Bla Bla Sushi”, the “To Sushi” was also closed down by health authorities from the Secretaría de Salud de Yucatán (SSY), although the precise causes that led to the closure are still unknown, as the seals placed on the entrance do not indicate the exact reason.
It is only stated that the closure proceeded after a routine review carried out by SSY inspectors Hugo Gamboa Herrera and Alberto Torres Pérez.
The inspectors carried out a review of the different businesses located in the fast food area of Plaza La Isla and “To Sushi” was the only one closed down. The inspection took place on December 28 and until now the business remains closed, although the stamps state that the sanction was supposed to be only temporary.
As The Yucatan Times reported on December 27, the “Bla, Bla & Sushi” restaurant, on García Lavín Avenue, was closed because Cofepris specialists verified sanitary anomalies, and after the Secretaría de Salud de Yucatán (SSY) received seven complaints from citizens affected by the food they consumed at that restaurant. It was mentioned that these reports of food poisoning, resulted in several confirmed cases of salmonellosis, which is a common bacterial disease that affects the intestinal tract, causing diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps and requires immediate medical treatment.
