Yucatecan clothing companies trained in labeling regulations

A total of 40 Yucatecan textile companies received training to comply with NOM-004-SCFI-2006, regarding labeling, as part of the linking strategies carried out by the Directorate of Investment Promotion and Trade of the Ministry of Economic Development (Dirección de Promoción de Inversiones y Comercio de la Secretaría de Fomento Económico: Sefoe).

The workshop “Labeling requirements for textiles and clothing” was held in partnership with the National Chamber of the Clothing Industry (Cámara Nacional de la Industria del Vestido: Canaive) of the state of Yucatán, and SGS de México, a company that offers specialized commercial solutions, through inspection services, certification and tests for all industrial sectors.

“It is an Official Mexican Standard of national application for all producers and importers,” said Marco Antonio Méndez Padilla, who heads the Accredited Verification Unit of the firm and has 13 years of experience in Commercial Information Verification.

In addition, the instructor explained that two of the most important requirements for labeling are the composition, which must be determined by laboratory analysis, and care instructions, derived from the nature of the textile fibers used to manufacture the items.
