Man faces 30 years in prison for stabbing his wife in Merida

Erick. G.L was arrested for the crime of aggravated feminicide against his wife, that took place on Wednesday December 5 in Colonia Poligono 108 of Merida, Yuc.

When the couple began to argue  inside their house, Erick, in a drunken state, attacked his wife Guadalupe with a knife; the man injured her in different parts of the body, in the head, abdomen, arms and chest.

According to the neighbors, the man is very jealous and violent, the day the crime happened began with an argument, however he quickly went on to physical aggression, as the man, under the infuence of alohol, began to beat up his wife inside their home, as the victim tried to escape, she came to the front of the next-door neighbor’s house asking for help, but the suspect followed her and repeatedly stabbed her with a knife. In fact the knife broke in two, leaving a part inside the woman’s body.

The man was detained by police officers and the Prosecutor General’s Office and he was immediately placed under preventive detention for six months. The prosecutor’s office will have 4 months to close the investigation, present the evidence and the corresponding procedures that will allow defining the legal situation of the accused.

It was said that there are several testimonies on file that incriminate the accused, who would face a sentence of more than 30 years in prison if found guilty, the minimum to impose is 10 years in prison.
