As a result of the coordinated work between authorities of the three levels of government and before the arrival of a greater number of visitors to the Riviera Maya on the occasion of the Christmas holiday season, the General Directorate of Public Security and Transit, the Secretariat of National Defense ( SEDENA), the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), the Federal Police and the State Police, jointly deployed the operative Solidarity Inter-Agency Force (Fuerza Inter-agencia Solidaridad: FIS), a new proximity surveillance operation to guarantee the safety of locals and tourists.
The safety and tranquility of citizens is the priority of the municipal president of Solidarity, Laura Beristain Navarrete, therefore the General Directorate of Public Safety headed by Commander MartÃn Estrada Sánchez, works in coordination with state and federal authorities to generate joint actions against crime in the area.
That is why officers of the Municipal Police, the Naval Police, Military Police, Federal Police and State Police, perform surveillance tours on Playa del Carmen’s Fifth Avenue in order to ensure the safety of tourists and residents, at bars, restaurants, shops and other commercial establishments, providing timely attention to those who require it, an action that in turn responds to the request made by local businessmen and entrepreneurs.
The head of the office of the Directorate of Preventive Police, Diddier Vázquez Méndez, stressed that this operation was deployed with pedestrian surveillance on Fifth Avenue which is where the largest number of tourits is concentrated; however, it continues alongside the “NIght Owl” (Búho) operation, in which patrols monitor all areas of the municipality in order to prevent any type of criminal act.
