BOGOTÁ (EFE) .- Colombian authorities rescued on December 16th Melisa Martínez García, niece granddaughter of the late Nobel laureate writer Gabriel García Márquez, who was kidnapped on August 23, 2018 in a rural area of the Caribbean region of Santa Marta when leaving a banana plantation where she was visiting.

“Impeccable operation”
“She was kidnapped on August 23 and there was an impeccable operation,” President Iván Duque told reporters, adding that eleven people were captured.
The president explained that the operation was carried out in Palmor, a rural area of the municipality of Ciénaga, in Magdalena.
He added that the authorities carried out an “impeccable” work for several months to preserve the victim’s life and reach the heads of that organization, finally achieving the rescue operation successfully.
