The Government of the State will join this Tuesday to the call made by the business sector to turn off the lights for one hour in all of Mérida, as a way of requesting prompt and effective reponse to the controversy with the unfair electricity tariffs and transparent and compensate the formulas that determine the costs of these excessive fees.
In that sense, the Executive informed that it will suspend the electricity service from 7 to 8 at night in buildings of the state public administration that do not provide elementary services to the citizenship, as for example, the Government Palace.
Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal held a working meeting on Tuesday with Rocío Nahle García, next Secretary of Energy of the Government of the Republic. Vila is making an effort to sensitize the federal authorities on electricity rates and look for a possible solution.
The companies and industries that generate employment in the Yucatan have been affected in their productivity and competitiveness in recent months due to the disproportionate rise in electricity rates, which is directly detrimental to thousands of jobs and the families that depend on those sources of employment.
In Yucatán, since the end of 2017, commercial and industrial electricity tariffs have had increases ranging from 60 to 300 percent. This affects in a sensible and considerable way all the activities directly or indirectly related to them, since the economic viability of the companies that day after day employ thousands of Yucatecans is compromised.
Faced with this situation, the representatives of the private initiative part of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) of Yucatan, made a call on society as a whole to participate in this temporary suspension of the electric service for one hour, called “blackout”, for today Tuesday November 13th, from 7 to 8 at night, and the State Government has decided to join this massive strategy.
