A new clandestine intake of fuel in pipelines of Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), was found in the Paraíso community, municipality of Progreso, just 16 miles north of Mérida, Yucatán, the area is located at kilometer seven of the Mérida – Progreso Highway.

The authorities and employees of PEMEX, found the clandestine tap during a routine surveillance operation in the area, a “pile of dry leaves and branches” caught their attention and when they checked it out, they found the illegal outlet, they noticed tracks left by truck tires as they passed through the place.

No detainees were reported after the discovery made by agents of the Mexican Army and personnel of Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX).

Immediately, the area was cordoned off and the corresponding authorities were informed to start investigating in order to detain those responsible for the theft of fuel in Yucatan.

The incident brought to mind the fact that in July this year as PEMEX pipeline on the Mérida-Progreso highway exploded as fuel was being illegaly extracted, leaving three dead and two arrested, who were later released upon determination that their detention was illegal despite having been found in the place of the explosion.
