Young people from Yucatan and Germany shared the stage of Peón Contreras on a scale of the “Luz y sombras” tour, which covered the States of Yucatan, Quintana Roo and Campeche.
The presentation took place on October 10, at 8 p.m.
It is the third tour that the German choirs and Domus Artis perform together, directed by the masters Stefan Jaenke and Gabriel Trujillo del Río, respectively. In the first one, in February of 2017, there were 11 concerts in Quintana Roo, in different venues across Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Bacalar, Chetumal and Tihosuco, among others.
At the end of July and the beginning of August of the same year they performed in scenarios of Saxony, one of the federated states of Germany. The Yucatecan delegation plans to return to Germany in the summer of 2019.
The European group travels with 45 of its 80 members, children and young people from 10 to 27 years old, who perform German and international pop songs. “Some parents are part of the choir, which makes this project “a family activity”, says Stefan Jaenke with the help of translator María Asencio.
The vocal group has performed in countries such as Vietnam, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Holland and Switzerland. His first visit to the Mexico was made at the initiative of María, a Mexican resident in Germany and the mother of one of the singers. She suggested traveling to Quintana Roo, where some of her relatives live.
“It was important for the choir to share this experience, because this project is not only musical, but we also seek cultural exchange,” says teacher Trujillo, another promoter of this initiative, and director of the music academy Domus Artis formed the group with 25 students from 13 to 27 years old. His repertoire is composed of Mexican and Hispanic Americans composers.
The German teacher Jaenke indicated that the Domus Artis project has experienced “a very big development” and “it has grown a lot musically”.
Teacher Trujillo affirms that the personality of each group “makes that something very special is created in the concerts” and points out that one of the lessons that the joint tours have left them is the discipline in the work, which “has allowed us to improve gradually”.
The concert at the Peon Contreras, he adds, was “one of the most important of the tour”, because it was held in the most prestigious artistic space of the Peninsula. Bach, German, Mexican and Yucatecan songs were performed, among them “Barco de cristal”, by Felipe Domínguez Baqueiro, and “Mestiza”, by Chan Cil, uncle and great-great-grandfather of maestro Trujillo.
