Xmatkuil started 44 years ago as a Cattle Fair

MÉRIDA, Yuc.- The president of the Cattle Breeders’ Association of Yucatan, Juan Manuel Conde Mena, informed that this year, as part of the Yucatán Xmatkuil Fair,  the number of animals on display will increase to 972 in the livestock exhibition.

“There will be 972 animals, only from the national association of Zebu cattle with its nine varieties that will  be very impressive,” he explained.

The LV Cebu National Exhibition will be held from 9 to 16 November, with 950 animals on display and 106 exhibitors from Tamaulipas, Guerrero, Michoacán, Veracruz, Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Quintana Roo and Yucatan.

Subsequently, from November 17 to December 2,  the XXV International Fair of Tropical Livestock will count with the participation of countries such as Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras and other states of Mexico.

Also, 450 sheep specimens of the Black belly, Pelibuey, Katahdin and Dorper breeds will participate, will be attended by breeders from Jalisco, State of Mexico, Veracruz, Tabasco and Yucatan.

For the first time, a module will be available in which demonstrations and explanations of conventional embryo transfer and in vitro fertilization in animals will be carried out by experts, with the objective of promoting the work of the local ranchers.

“We must keep in mind that Xmatkuil started 44 years ago as a cattle fair, and we want to go bak to those roots, and make livestock an important part of this State Fair one more time, featuring exhibitions, demonstrations, presentations, as well as easy and friendly explanations and conferences, so that people can understand what the process is about, and get to know more about livestock, ” Conde Mena concluded.
