Journalist says Peña Nieto chose first lady from a Televisa catalog

Enrique Peña Nieto chose the woman who would be his wife and Mexico’s first lady from a Televisa catalog of  actresses. The chosen one was Angelica Rivera, who was a successful “telenovela” actress.

Other candidates were Galilea Montijo, who was too tall for Peña and had a questionable past: since she worked as a “table dancer” in Guadalajara. Singer, actress and recording artist Lucero refused to be part of the “casting.”

These details are narrated by the journalist Sanjuana Martínez in her column, in which she reiterates the version of the separation between the president and his wife. She even mentions that Peña and Rivera have not lived together for more than two years and that the contract between them was only a six-year agreement.

According to the researcher, who already published a book about the couple, the whole relationship was created by Televisa executives, including board of directors president, Emilio Azcárraga.

At first, Peña and Rivera were showcased in public events and luxurious restaurants and jet-set weddings, such as the one of Ninfa Salinas and Bernardo Sepúlveda, later in the wedding of telenovela stars Chantal Andere and Enrique Rivero Lake (couple that also caused controversy during the last ceremony of “El Grito”). And at the funeral of Doña María Antonieta Arellano, mother of actress Daniela Castro (the one who was recently arrested in the United States for shop lifting).

Then came the luxurious wedding, on November 27, 2010 at the Cathedral of Toluca, Estado de México.

Angelica Rivera had a period of acceptance. But her decline came very soon when her excesses became evident: her Óscar de la Renta dresses during events in the National Palace, shopping trips abroad for her and her daughters, as well as all the designer clothes that the family wore in different events. The drop that spilled the glass was: “The white house scandal” and the failed attempt to justify its acquisition and minimize the conflict of interest in the purchase of properties linked to government suppliers.

Journalist Sanjuana Martínez concludes her column with the following question:
“With how much money did Peña and his chosen actress started this farse 6 years ago and how much money do they have today?”

And she adds: “The perfect couple, should be investigated and processed. Their story of lies and simulation, is also a story of looting, theft of the treasury, excesses and corruption”.
