Doña Elizabeth, who has her shop almost at the entrance of the Lucas de Galvez, says that, although until now the sale is normal, sale area likely to increase, especially in candles. The prices of candles range between three and twenty pesos. “Candles are very requested these days, since the first day is given to children and the next day to adults. In addition, many are those who use colored candles, including red, yellow, blue, green, among others”, she said.
“The colors have different meanings and intentions. For example, red is for love, white for positive energy and yellow for money; also several are directed to figures such as Santa Muerte, Jesús Malverde, the Virgin of Guadalupe, the 7 archangels, and many other symbolisms”, Doña Elizabeth continued.
On the other hand, Margarita Pech stated that there are people who come to buy candles regularly, but it is in this time of the year in which their sale grows, as well as the profits. The candles that sell the most are the colored ones, at four pesos each, but she also sells the “Veladoras” at a cost of 65 pesos each, approximately.
As for religious images, in this mercado you can find any size and price. The smallest ones have a cost of 50 pesos and the most expensive ones measuring just over one meter can cost up to 5,000 pesos. “But of course, you need a very large altar to place one of these religious images”, Margarita Pech concluded.
