The National Hurricane Center (CNH) reported that Tropical Storm Isaac is located 5,645 km southeast of the city of Merida.
The CNH announced that at the moment it does not present a risk for the region, but due to its trajectory, it is constantly monitored to determine if it’s going to hit the Yucatan Peninsula at some point in time.
Isaac is strengthening over the Atlantic and is expected to become a hurricane later in the day or in the next 24 hours.
According to the report, in 36 hours the system could become a Category 2 hurricane, with winds of 100 miles per hour heading to the Caribbean. The weakening is expected to begin mid-week.
Three hurricanes in the Atlantic
The Atlantic hosts three hurricanes, Florence, Helene and Isaac, which keep the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico and other countries on alert for their possible arrival.
Florence was the first major hurricane to form during the current season, although it was later degraded and is now a tropical storm, although forecasters predict that it will once again become a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir- Simpson next week.
The forecast of the National Oceans and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA) foresees five hurricanes in the Atlantic basin and only one of them within the most destructive category.
