The National Water Commission (CNA), will install six automatic meteorological stations, in sites that are still being analyzed, in order to direct preventive actions with climatological measurement systems.
According to information provided by the Transparency Unit of this federal agency, having this technology will allow forecasting and alerting the population well in advance of the occurrence of weather phenomena and perform actions that could minimize the loss of human life, damage to infrastructure, material goods, that could affect the economy of the country.
The Automatic Meteorological Station (EMA), like those that are intended to be installed in the State of Quintana Roo, is a set of electrical, electronic and mechanical devices that perform measurements of meteorological variables in numerical form.
It is made up of a group of sensors that automatically record and transmit weather information autonomously. Its main function is the collection and monitoring of Meteorological Variables to generate files every 10 minutes, this information is sent by means of transmission at regular intervals.
Information provided by the federal agency, states that for the installation of a station, should take into account the application that will be given to the data, also provide the necessary tools and find the site that allows its correct location.
The soil where the station is located should be covered with a natural grass of the region that will be kept short and only in extreme conditions, the place where the soil temperature will be measured will be irrigated, and it should be kept clean of vegetation (endemic or induced).
Among other aspects, it should be considered that a radius of 50 meters around the station should be endemic vegetation of the area, that does not exceed the permissible height of eight meters maximum, the ground where it will be installed must be free of natural or artificial obstacles (trees, buildings, etc.). These should be located, in general terms, at a distance equivalent to ten times their height, since they obstruct the free path of the parameters to be observed or recorded.
