Man drowns in Chuburná Puerto

A construction worker from the town of Seyé, Yucatán drowned on Saturday, September 22 around noon when he and his son jumped into the ocean from the Chuburná Puerto pier, neither one of them knew how to swim.

The name of the deceased is José Antonio Dzul Canché, 48 years old, while his son José Antonio Dzul Can, 25, was rescued and taken out of the water unconscious.

Municipal police officer Pablo Montejo Itzá saved the young man’s life as he gave him CPO immediately after he was taken out of the ocean.

According to statement made by José Antonio Dzul Can, he and his father jumped from the end of the Chuburná Puerto pier, and were dragged into the open sea by a strong current, he managed to get a hold of one of the metal structures underneath the pier, but his father was pulled by the tide about 300 meters into the ocean.

According to witnesses, the men had been consuming alcoholic beverages before jumping into the sea from the end of the pier.
