The Board of Trustees of the Historic Center of Mérida (Patronato del Centro Histórico de Mérida) has proposed to combat the unhealthy noise caused by entertainment establishments and businesses in this area with a new municipal regulation that is currently awaitng to be approved by municipal authorities.
An awareness campaign will be implemented among the businessmen that cause the noise pollution, and technologies generated by local and foreign universities will be used in this task.
Enrique Ancona Teigel president of the Board, informed that this initiative is the first of a series of forums in order to analyze the different problems that affect the Historic Center in order to find solutions and turn Mérida into an “intelligent city”.
The first forum that will be carried out from Thursday September 6th to Friday September 7th, in the Council Hall of the Autonomous University of Yucatan is focused on noise pollution and features the participation of specialists from various federal, state and municipal agencies, as well as representatives of different local higher education institutions such as the Marista, Modelo, UADY and Tecnológico de Mérida universities.
