The state of Yucatan has established itself as a tourist destination, thanks to the efforts of both government and private initiative, to the investments applied to expand the hotel offer, but above all to the fact that Yucatan is the undisputed safest state in the country.

Only in the first quarter of the year so far, hotel occupancy in Yucatan increased by 6% compared to the same period of 2017; while the users of the international airport of Mérida ‘Manuel Crescencio Rejón’ increased 12% in relation to the first two months of 2017; and if the figures broke records last year, the projections for this year based on the behavior in the first months are flattering and promising, and Yucatan will continue positioning itself as one of the favorite destinations for tourism.

Business Tourism

On April 18, the entity received recognition for the Diversification of the Mexican Tourism Product 2018 in the category of meetings, granted by the Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico.

This is relevant with the inauguration and start-up of the International Congress Center (Centro Internacional de Congresos), inaugurated earlier this month by President Enrique Peña Nieto, which will host its first global meeting: the International Congress of Urban Parks.

The CIC has 55,000 square meters in three levels of construction and six thousand square meters for the organization of events, which includes a main hall with capacity for 6,000 people, divisible into six sections for 1,000 people each, or 12, for 500 each.

This is one of the most attractive sectors in Yucatan, since the so-called meetings tourism, focuses on the organization of meetings, such as congresses and conventions, generating a whole set of economic activities.

The development of the tourist industry, the increase in the promotion and the new infrastructure of the state have consolidated Yucatan in the year 2018, as a national and international tourist pole.
