According to ship-technology.com, Mexico-based operator Ultramar has received the second in a series of high-capacity 48m catamaran passenger ferries named Ultramar II.

The ferry, manufactured by Midship Marine in Harvey, Louisiana, US, will be deployed to serve the route that connects Playa de Carmen with Cozumel in Mexico.

Designed by Incat Crowther, the ferry is expected to provide high-capacity, high-durability, and an improved passenger experience.

Powered by two MTU 16V4000 63L main engines, Ultramar II is capable of offering additional speed and power over its sister vessel, Ultramar.

The yacht-like vessel is designed to fit in Ultramar’s ‘Experience Innovation’ motto and comprises aquarium-themed feature walls and glass pieces, decorative ceilings, multi-colour underwater lighting, and stainless-steel handrails.

Featuring a dedicated child-friendly area and refreshment bar, the vessel’s main deck aft cabin is developed to accommodate 214 passengers.
