Since Wednesday, July 1, the action of disseminating images, text or recordings of erotic or sexual content is considered a crime in Yucatan, as the amendment to the Penal Code approved by the current local Legislature came into effect on that date (one month ago).

Therefore, whoever is engaged in this type of behavior can reach sanctions established from five to nine years in prison.

“With the entry into force of the aforementioned reforms, our state sets a national precedent by penalizing crimes against personal image, known as pornovenganza (porno-revenge), which is a step forward as a society,” said representative Celia Rivas Rodríguez, president of the Government Board and Political Coordination of the State Congress.

Rivas Rodríguez reiterated that now, anyone who divulges or threatens to spread erotic, sexual or pornographic images obtained with or without the consent of another person will be punished according to law, and stated that this legislation change was a claim of the Yucatecan society.
