Juan Carrillo Soberanis, municipal president of Isla Mujeres, led on Tuesday August 7 the grand opening of the first beach where pets are allowed in this important tourist destination, located at kilometer one of the Caribbean Sea highway – right next to the Telmex tower.

In order to place Isla Mujeres at the forefront in tourism and provide visitors and islanders with adequate spaces to enjoy the beautiful beaches of the municipality along with their pets, the City Council opened this “pet friendly” space, where users have access to a playground and a palapa area where they can rest while they watch their pets run in the sand.

“It is a pride to say that this is one of the few beach destinations in Mexico, and the second in Quintana Roo, which adds to this movement. We know that pets are not only companions but also part of the family, so Isla Mujeres now has a ‘pet friendly’ beach for the benefit of islanders and visitors, ” said Carrillo Soberanis.

Meanwhile, Kerem Pinto Aguilar, director of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat), explained that, for greater safety of users and pets, the beach will have regulations and scheduled service hours.

“At this moment Isla Mujeres is one of the favorite destinations of thousands of national and foreign tourists, who come to enjoy the natural beauties of our beloved island, and with this new ‘pet friendly’ beach, we are sure that many more people will come to “Isla” to spend moments of healthy recreation with their pets, ” the official continued.

He also explained that to enter and make use of the playground it is necessary that the pet is in good health and have the corresponding vaccination card.

Thanks to the work done by the City of Isla Mujeres in terms of envorinmental care, the destination has two certified beaches: Playa Centro with “Blue Flag”, and Playa Norte with “Bandera Blanca“, which guarantees tourists and locals a good quality, non-polluted ocean water and a safe recreation area monitored by trained safeguards.

“Day by day, from an early hour, work begins to keep our beaches clean and in good condition, so we have managed to ratify both badges (“Blue Flag” and “Bandera Blanca“); in addition, Playa Centro features adapted chairs so that people with disabilities can enjoy this gorgeous beach with the help of their companions, which demonstrates the City Council’s commitment to make Isla Mujeres a 100% inclusive tourist destination” Pinto Aguilar concluded.
