Yucatan’s state government and private initiative join to fight Influenza

Merida, Yucatan, July 18, 2018.- Breaking the Influenza chains of transmission through a joint strategy between the State Government and the private initiative, was part of the agreements of the meeting between the holders of the Ministry of Health (SSY) and the Business Coordinating Council of Yucatan, Jorge Eduardo Mendoza Mézquita and Michel Salum Francis, respectively.

Within the framework of this work meeting, it was explained to the union leader that there is currently a common front for the same purpose, that involves the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) and the Social Security and Services of State Workers participate. (ISSSTE), and the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena).

Accompanied by the director of Prevention and Health Protection of SSY, Manuel Jesús Paredes Aguilar, Mendoza Mézquita explained that the current Influenza scenario in Yucatán sets a record for epidemiological week number 28, with 92 confirmed cases and four deaths.

Regarding the actions that should be followed to mitigate the infection, the SSY official insisted on the constant washing of hands and avoid going to crowded places if you have the symptoms, and go to the doctor in case of severe headache, fever, dry cough or nasal congestion.

“It is very important to see a doctor as soon as possible if there is suspicion of infection, so that through a timely diagnosis the treatment scheme is initiated if the case of Influenza is confirmed”, declared Paredes Aguilar.

Mendoza Mézquita stated that medical institutions in Yucatan have enough medicine to serve the population that requires it.

Finally, it was said that this type of meetings are part of the actions that the State Government is carrying out with business organizations to add allies that could help to control and reduce the impact of this disease for the benefit of the population.
