Summer homes rentals on the rise in Yucatan

Chelem Beach Front Villa

The coastline from Chuburna to Telchac Puerto shows high rental costs in summer houses: ranging from 5,000 to 25,000 pesos per week, depending on the amenities and features of the properties.

According to the Secretariat of Tourism Promotion (Sefotur) a “good number” of vacationers is expected for this summer , after the World Cup and the electoral process.

Last year more than 1.2 million visitors arrived to the state in two months, July and August, where the port of Progreso had attendance reports of up to 300,000 visitors on weekends.

In this sense, summer houses are already offered as spaces for family vacations, featuring variable rental prices, depending on the property’s proximity to the coast. The average rental is 3,500 to 4,000 pesos for a three-day period. Checking in on Friday at 1 PM, and leaving on Sunday at 6 PM.

The head of Sefotur, Saul Ancona Salazar, said that a 4% increase in tourism is expected this year. In 2017, a total of 1.4 million tourists entered Yucatan, an increase of 14.2% compared to 2016.

It's great news however the government had better get this act together and ensure a reliable water supply! The water gets shut off on a regular basis in Progreso, Chelem and Chuburna...the locals are flushing toilets with ocean water, while the rich bring in water trucks. You better have a well when buying that vacation home because renters are going to leave and ask for their money back...and look else where next time. This is a feel good article without reality...without water life is not so good.
