Campeche has started to reactivate its economy by the way of tourism, and the so-called Maya Train, is probably the largest tourist project that the next President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has for Southeast Mexico, Since according to the projections of this mega infrastructure work, the train will have a station in Campeche.

The project will take advantage of the magnificent cultural and touristic resources that exist on a large scale in the Maya zone. Four states of the country’s southeast will be benefited with this mega-project, which will feature more than 900 kilometers of railway, from Cancun Quintana Roo, to Palenque Chiapas, with 10 stations along the way, including Escárcega, a Campeche municipality considered the Gateway to the Maya World.

López Obrador states that Southeastern Mexico must take advantage of the tourism potential generated by the presence of Maya culture in the region. And this train, with an investment of more than 80 billion pesos, will connect at least 10 important cities of Quintana Roo, Campeche, Tabasco and Chiapas, with at least one station in each of those states.

The Tabasqueño politician wants to bring economic resources that come from abroad by the means of tourism, from Cancun, Quintana Roo, but flow to other important points of interest in that state such as Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Bacalar; Xpujil and Calakmul (Escárcega municipality), in Campeche; Tenosique and Balancán, in Tabasco, and Palenque, in Chiapas.

Although it is not attractive, Escárcega visitors could easily connect with points of interest such as the cenotes of Miguel Colorado, Champotón, or Salto Grande and El Tigre, in Candelaria, as well as generating important currencies that would strengthen the local economy, since lodging, food and tourist transportation services would have an outstanding rebound.
