In the town of Tzucacab, 90 miles south of Mérida, the neglect of the owners of several dogs causes them to invade public places in the downtown area, such as the central square and the Municipal Palace where the pack usually hangs out.
This group of canines act aggressively, causing disturbances to passersby as the animals attack them and they also run after cyclists and motorcyclists, trying to bite them.
Tzucacab resident Raúl Xix, said that most of these animals are supposed to have an owner but “they neglect them and just leave them out on the streets”.
“When a female is in heat several of these dogs become very aggressive, they get nervous and jumpy, so when people pass by the dogs attack them,” he said.
“I think a solution should be sought without torturing or killing these animals, it´s not their fault if their owners leave them out on the street. People need to take responsibility for their pets, take care of them and try not to abandon the poor animals on the street,” said Raul Xix.
Tzucacab is located in the southern tip of the state, 145 kilometers (90 miles) south of Mérida. (Google)
