Cancun obtains the re-certification of seven public beaches with the “Blue Flag” distinction

As a result of the efforts of several municipal government agencies and the commitment to keep the beaches clean and in optimal conditions for the enjoyment of tourists and locals, the municipality of Benito Juárez managed to successfully acquire the recertification of the seven public beaches with the ‘Blue Flag’ badge.

On Thursday July 5, during the XIII National Meeting of Clean Beaches 2018, inaugurated by the secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), Rafael Pacchiano Alamán and the governor of Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, personnel of the Directorate of the Federal Maritime and Terrestrial Zone  (Zona Federal Marítima y Terrestre: ZOFEMAT) received the seven “Blue Flag” recognitions, the recertification of Playa Las Perlas NOM120-2016 Level III, and the certification of Playa Cancun, for more than 1.5 Km of certified beach Level l.

With this distinction, Cancun reaffirms its position as the undisputed leader in beach destinations in Mexico, this thanks to the fact that besides being a natural resource, they have the necessary services for a pleasant stay, such as bathrooms, ramps for the disabled, playgrounds, outdoor gymnasiums, security staff, picnic areas, sunbeds, among others.

It should be noted that there is no charge for the people to access these beaches, and that these sites ensure the good quality of its waters, which are not contaminated.

The beaches that obtained this important international recognition, which is a tool to boost tourism and guarantee sustainable practices annually, are committed to maintain an optimal natural environment and should strive to improve management in information, education and environmental practices.

But most of all, these beaches must conserve good water quality, safety and social responsibility.
