Students of Mechatronics of the Technological University of Campeche, obtained the first place in the National Robotics Olympics 2018, held in Toluca, State of Mexico, and so they earned their pass to represent Mexico in the world championship to be held in Thailand in the month of November.
“The competition was tough, it really takes a big effort, we were working day and night for two months to get this satisfactory results” said André Almazán Herrera, one of the students.
“More than anything this competition leaves us a lot of learning and we had to work hard to reach this result, there were many obstacles along the way,” explained student Oscar Martínez León.
The “World Robot Olympiad” is a robotics competition, where young people test their knowledge and their ability to work as a team.
The objective of the competition is to build a robot in a 2.hour period of time, and that could play a soccer match following certain specifications of weight and size.
“The first place in the WRO soccer football category was obtained by the Campeche team, the goal of the category is to play a match, two against two (robots). These robots must meet certain specifications such as measurements and weight and once the robots are built, they must play a soccer match, and the one that scores the most goals wins, “said Javier Delgado Moreno, director of the Robotics Center. from the Technological University of Campeche.
The team integrated by André Almazán Herrera, Oscar Martínez León and Jesús Pereyra de los Reyes will represent Mexico in the “World Robot Olympiad” next November and will face teams of more than 2,500 students from 60 countries around the world.
“We also had a lot of support from our parents, it is difficult for the family because we have to spend a lot if time in the university or in our case in the workshop, but we invested enough time to get the best the results,” said André Almazán Herrera, one of the students.
The Technological University of Campeche has obtained more than 15 international and 50 national acknowledgements.
