An immediate call to the inhabitants of the city of Mérida is made to take action in favor of the environment, due to the negative consequences that society is currently experiencing in the state capital.
In social networks, an image of Mérida went viral, it looks as a gigantic urban “cement” spot, which is the cause of the thermal sensation that elevates the temperature within the city, making it absolutely unbearable.
In that sense, Luis Francisco Guillermo Alcocer, State Coordinator of the Association Plant for the Planet Yucatan, explained that they aim to create awareness of the ecological need to save the planet.
“The truth is that there’s a lot of work to do, to raise ecological awareness. That’s why we are giving in adoption different endemic plants of the region so that people can plant them in their homes and take care of them, while they watch them grow”, Guillermo Alcocer said.
“Today we are seeing the different effects of the sun rays, which are more harmful every day, and people is not really aware of the fact that this can be prevented with small actions,” he continued.
The Planet Yucatan State Coordinator stressed that a large part of the consequences that arise today are due to human carelessness.
He mentioned that environmental awareness is being promoted in the city of Mérida, but that those who come to live in the state still need to take this current problem into account.
“There are many organizations that are working together to do improve these type of actions, specifically in the city of Merida we see that many people are coming to settle down and they must be aware of the problem. Yucatecans and foreigners must work for these actions,” he concluded.
